FCS: Program Showcase
We have some amazing Family and Consumer Science
Programs going on throughout the state. Energetic and creative instructors
are using their resources to design and develop new and exciting learning
experiences. While visits to these programs is not realistic, you can get
the look and feel of what’s happening via a virtual tour. Here are our
first four Program Showcases for you to review.
Roger Gerard
gives you a peek into Shasta College’s
Hospitality Program.
Did you know they have their own winery?
Jill Golden’s
Orange Coast College
Culinology students
“tell all” in this student centered presentation.
Carol Rupe shows off her student club
and strong advisory board. These groups help keep Shasta’s
Family Studies Program
connected to the community.
Kathi Cliff and Roxanne Williams
document the construction of Los Angeles Southwest College’s
Leed™ Certified Child Development Center.
FCS faculty used
inexpensive
digital camcorders
to capture, record, and upload their videos to YouTube. You can purchase
small, easy-to-use camcorders for under $100. Once you have the camera, you
can tell and sell your program via YouTube. Students can view your
recruiting videos on their phones. You can embed your videos to make your
PowerPoint presentations more compelling. You can post your videos on your
college’s website, or send your video link to community organizations.
Before you begin your YouTube production, complete
Lights, Camera, Action…
to make sure your video is a hit.

when students go away to college. In “How
to Combat the Freshmen 15” Dana offers weighty advice on how to
avoid putting on unwanted pounds. Maria Claver, PhD, MSW, Cal State Long
Beach, offers some timely tips to help our aging population protect against
Identity Theft.
Roger Gerard, Shasta College looks at
hiring practices in the hospitality industry breaking down the
difference between "tradition" and discrimination. Finally, Dolores
Robles, MA, Mt. San Antonio College, recommends some excellent
decision making strategies
to help students identify alternative courses of action.
