FLASH 9 Tickets 2FCS Activity: Lifelong Learning…ticket to the future
While we carefully craft our beginning class activities, we often let students out the door without an appropriate or inspiring ending. This year we encourage you to end your course on a high note as you celebrate what students have learned in your course and inspire them to be lifelong learners. After all, on the average our students can expect to change jobs or careers an astonishing 10 times in their lifetimes. For them to succeed in today’s world of work, they must be committed to continually learn new information and improve their skills. A commitment to lifelong learning is one of the key qualities employers seek. So, before you say good-bye, give students some reasons why they should continue on their learning journey and a few ideas on how to begin.

Do this:
Ask questions about lifelong learning.
What does lifelong learning mean to you?
Why is lifelong learning so important in today’s world?
What do you think employers mean when they say they expect employees to be lifelong learners?
Distribute Lifelong Learning…your ticket to the future activity and review the instructions.
View Jeffrey Gitomer’s 6-minute lifelong learning video.
Give students time to complete their responses and ask them to highlight 3 things they will do this summer to continue learning.
Share responses from the activity and give students additional information.
Give students information about local Toastmaster Meetings.
Provide connections to professional association events related to your discipline.
Suggest a good book related to your course.
     Share your summer learning plans.

FYI: As the FCS FLASH team breaks for summer, we will continue to explore and plan new events, information, and resources for next year. Please let us know what you enjoyed about this year’s FLASH, how you have used the information, and what you would like to see next year. We hope this summer will be filled with fun, sun, and opportunities to…Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!
